this is probably happening because trackir has bound the keys you are trying to use.

in the trackir configuration program, go to the hotkeys tab and uncheck "Trap key" check boxes for the keys that are giving you trouble

trackir crashes often while i'm in the trackir program playing with settings.. most notably when i'm enabling/disabling Enhanced mode
