Don't expect anything fancy, but it SHOULD tell you everything you need to know, step by step, to build an active IR dot into a baseball cap.

Umm,
Maybe I'm overlooking something here. You mention you have tried repositioning your trackIR unit, but have you tried just changing its attitude? Leave it in a good spot, just pivot it so it is angled looking up more and that should centre your dot just fine....
