So I'm assuming because Vincent and Seth ignored my post yesterday that this has never happened to anyone before and theres no answer or no hope and I need to by a new one.

Did it but no change at all same message

"error extracting support files....the file name,directory name,or volume label syntax is incorrect"

Yes it is unfortunetly....I also updated my install shield kernel to no avail.....thanks for the help Barred

well I tried repairing xp to see if that might be the problem (missing files or something) but after the reinstall the problem is still the same....Hmmmmmm
