Recon,
If you're getting an intermittant signal return in the view window (red/green flashing box around dots) Try dragging out the height and width filters to get a clean green box.
I found this smoothed things right out for me.

I think you'll find that's more a game issue than TrackIR one. If it were possible to hit a key to toggle 'move' ingame, then hit it to enable TIR then it would probably work.

I had similar problems especially running a Cougar setup as well.
A nice USB PCI card sorted the problem for �20 and gave me 4 additional ports
