I did all this and it seems to work (I see the movement in the TIR3Joystick app), but when I try to map the look right and left settings in N2003 it doesn't work. Is there something I'm missing?

Here is what you need and how to do it.

1. You need 2 programs, I have included the links to help make it easier for you:

PPJoy joystick device driver
http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/Docs/PPJoyMain.htm

TrackIR2Joystick http://www.dikant.de./index.php?option= ... d=12&func= fileinfo&parent=category&filecatid=8

2. Unzip and install PPJoy into your OS (mine is WinXP, but this will work in Win2000 okay). Click Next all the way until it finished.

3. Run PPJoy's "Configure Joystick", hit "Add...", and select Parallel port as "Virtual port", Controller number as "Controller 1".

4. Go to Control Panel's Gaming Options (aka Joystick), you should able to see a new stick named "PPJoy Virtual joystick 1", remember it's number (mine is joystick no3).

5. Start TrackIR and enable "Enhanced Mode".

6. Unzip TrackIR2Joystick into its own directory, than run tir2joy.exe

7. You should be able to see a window with title "TrackIR2Joystick", and while you moving your head in front of TrackIR, the "Status" will now show your head position (X=xxx, Y=xxx).

8. Go to the Control Panel's Gaming Options (aka Joystick) again, double click on "PPJoy Virtual joystick 1" and move your head, you should be able to see the joystick marker moving as your heads moving. Map your left and right keys and your done.

9. Start racing and have fun.

Has anyone tried using the key mapping feature for NR 2003? I understand that the game is not setup for this, but one could at least use to to look all the way left and all the way right to see left and right while racing without pushing a button. Will this trackir cause any problems with NR 2003?

That link is dead!

I'm interested in this product, but the only game I'd use it for is NR2k3. Does it work in this game? Because I don't want to spend $120 for nothing. Also I heard it works in fps games, what about HL2?

ppjoy, tir2joy is basically all you need.
good luck.

it is very cool looking thru the apex of a corner, as with the flightsims it does take some getting used to, but is well worth it when you get your head around it.

i majorly reduced the sensitivity of the trackir so that the in game view was limited to looking just past the wheels, this provided the most realistic feel, but limited the ability to check for adjacent cars.
anxiously waiting to try the absolute mode.

Hello

I'm enjoying Tir3 and VE more and more each day. Got it set up to work with GPL, GTR Demo, NSR, Richard Burns etc.

One sim eludes me though and that sim is Nascar Racing 2003 Season.

Despite reading the advice and attempting to get ppjoy and tir2joy to work, I'm basically not allowed to assign the head movements to the look left/right function in-game.

In my desktop I can see the tir2joy working correctly, tracking my head-movements.

Can anyone suggest what to check or do now please?

Hope you got it fixed before now, waiting for these forum responses can take forever.

I'm going to take a guess that you haven't calibrated that axis yet in the game. When you're in the controller calibration screen, click the right arrow at the bottom to show more axis. You should then see an axis reflect the TIR movement.
