Test Drive Unlimited Beta is Out!

Post by MaXThReAT »

Hey all, I just got the TDU beta off fileplanet. I thought maybe a new thread for the demo would be a good idea. It doesn't seem to have TrackIR support ATM. Any new news or ideas on getting it to work? Thanks guys.

OK, I'm currently downloading it. I'll try it with the developer software, and see if we can get support for it released ......

Hi all,

I'm responsible for devices implementation in TDU PC.

For question of time and technical issues, i only support 2 DOFs left-right and up-down.

1st you have to launch the TrackIR control.
2nd in Options->Controls->Options, check the TrackIR box.

From there, you can move viewing point with the TrackIR.

What you should know, even with TrackIR on, you still can look with the keys.

You can control smoothness and sensitivity in the TrackIR Software.

Vincent , do you have a TDU PC version to test ? IF not, PM me.

cheers,
Bran

Hi magicfr,

welcome to the forum.
First, a big "thumbs up" for supporting TrackIR.
I observed your development throught the last year(s) and always had the feeling, that there is something "BIG" developed.

2DOF only? Well, better than nothing.
Are there just plain "engine" limits to implement more DOFs? I have seen motcycles, which lean into curves, so I could imagine, that an additional "leaning" DOF within the cockpit view "may be possible"?

Main problem is 3D clipping. If we allow 3d translation, we have to set a limit for all cars, Otherwise the head will penetrate the car cockpit in cockpit view.
Also in cockpit view the cam is at character's head position, if we allow other movment than rotation we may have collision with character's body.

Magicfr, Thank you for popping in. I'm very glad you guys are supporting this great add-on. I know at least 6 people that will be getting TDU based purely on the fact that it supports the TrackIR. 2DOF is awesome, though I also hope to see 6DOF for the game but understand the limitations. I even get a bit of clipping when adj the seat height and depth. I'm still in the process of learning the some of NatrualPoint's SDK but I hope Vincent or Warren might be able to help with a workaround for 6DOF or maybe 5DOF. If you want I'm able to test pretty much anything, let me know if I can help. Awesome game and great community support, to both you and NatrualPoint.

Ok, 6DOF with an AVATAR in cockpit view is "impossible". Sounds logical.
As far as I understand the explanation:
So all "sliding" movement along the X Y & Z axis would collide with the avator heads polygons, and would either look weird or even have a blocked view.

2DOF:
PITCH (looking up and down)
YAW (looking left and right)

Why not doing 3DOF?
Roll (a fixed center left and right "leaning")
That would not collide with the avatar head. But I maybe wrong with my thoughts.

For all others to visualize my thoughts, look at naturpoint's axis demo:
