Hux, I don't know why it still moves at 0 speed, but try moving it out to a couple of feet from the reflective spot on your hat (or whatever), that slows everything down.
You may then even need to have a higher speed setting for the extreme sideways/rear views.
To compensate for the unit being furter away use a larger dot covered in reflective material, mine is a ball the size of a maltezer on the peak of my cap.
