Oh, one other thing, the farther back TrackIR3 is mounted the less the angle difference between it and the reflectors (assuming trackIR32 is at the same height as before); this also helps the angle problem somewhat. The rest can be corrected with tilting the cap back.

Try it; I think it will work for you.

i have changed trackir placement so that clip/hat are aligned with the unit and i do "fine tuning" with hat. now my vektor is working great

I'm not sure why it is hard to put reflective material on a semisphere, but I don't much care that it doesn't look real pretty as long as it helps functionality and I'm sure that it would help quite a bit.

I agree.

When I stuck the three half-round rubber feet on top of the current reflectors then pressed some reflective tape over them, they did not look that bad; a little kludgy, but not that bad. They would look even better professionally made with semi-circle reflectors.

I'm not sure what they have tried but it seems that there are many ways to do it...

1: Spray-on reflector material over a plastic or metal base.

2: Reflectors hot-molded from a plastic with the reflective material in the mix.

3: Two thin strips of reflective tape on each semi-circle (plastic or metal) in the form of a cross. This way, tape could still be used but there would be good tracking left-right and up-down.

4: Possibly a more flexible (and stretchy) plastic backing material behind the reflective grit that would allow the tape to be applied BEFORE the reflectors are curved. This way the semi-circle could be stamped with the reflective material already applied; having a tough, stretchy backing would allow the reflective tape to conform neatly to the now convex shape of the just stamped metal base.

5: Using a heat shrinkable backing for the reflective grit so it can be pressed onto the convex surface and heat shrinked into place.

Also, there may be other reflective materials on the market that has a wider angle of acceptance that would still allow a flat strip but would reflect in a greater number of angles thereby allowing the user more leeway as to the position of the cap.

I believe there is one big, easy thing that NaturalPoint can do now…
As almost all TrackIR3’s are mounted above the monitor or behind it thereby causing an upward angle to many users view, NaturalPoint could simply increase the upward angle of all three reflectors. This would resolve most users tracking problems.

I think that just maybe now that we have opened the door on this subject that it may get more attention.

Boy, oh boy, I can hardly wait.

Hello:

We do like the dialog for sure. This discussion means that people are using our product, which is all we want!

We are working on other types of reflective material, but the 3M Scotchbrite is the best that we have found. Feel free to point out something that I have missed, it won't bother me, it just makes the product better.

Great ifo. If I might suggest an additional line for Step #1
Identify personal head viewing position in relation to screen.
Then position from that base. So many seem to setup so their heads get pushed back from where their eyes want to be. Eyesight, screen resolution, detail etc.

@ Jim,
Guess its a balance 'tween buying a model-T or walking. There's a better model coming for sure and development steps are always largest early in a new tech.
So its always, risk your life in one of those contraptions or wait for the one with airbags.

I had big problems with jerky movement and not being able to look all the way around. I also had problem with roll movement and the view rotating when I looked all the way down.

I solved the problems rather simple. I just taped the vector clip on top of the brim like DocLotus explaied in the second post. I didn�t need to bend it or move the the top reflector.

I had the same problems and was very disappointed from vector expansion at first.

Now i found a very easy solution for me. I just placed the trackIR unit behind me about 36 inches away and wear the cap the other way round. Some movements have to be reveresed in the profil but it works great now. No flipping or oversensitiv movement any more.

Hi Everyone;

What it all really amounts to is the reflectors have to be pointed DIRECTLY at TrackIR3 to work well.

Not a little above, not a little below, but right at.

When the angle is perfect and you press F12 (Center), you can look equally as well in the up direction as in the down direction.

Many uses (including myself) had the problem that we could look up but not down (or very little down); this is a dead giveaway that the reflectors are not looking directly at TrackIR3 but is looking too low (or below TrackIR3). This can also result in the sudden flipping upside down problem as one of the reflectors moves too far from alignment or the space between the top, center, rear reflector and the two front reflectors gets too great.

Simply tilting the hat back usually resolve both issues as the alignment approaches zero degrees difference between the reflectors and TrackIR3 receivers.
