Best settings for mouse replacement in FPS?

Hi! Happy new year!
I wondered if there are collections of "best" or well-tested settings for the trackir software using it merely as a mouse-replacement in FPS games?
I have a hard time to get UT2003 playable with it and wondered if my trials to do so are doomed by design (i.e. the lack of support for trackir) or if indeed a good setting can be found?
Any tips for finding it on my own would also be appreciated.
I already tried a lot, but the software just allows too much to finetune.. ( not that this is a bad thing..
