Install issue when trying to fix a problem

Post by WhiskeyBravo »

I've had an intermittent problem with IL2FB recently where sometimes my fps is less than half than it is usually. I've managed to isolate it to TrackIR. I've since uninstalled TrackIR and re-installed the latest drivers. Before I plugged in the hardware I noticed the following in the installlog.txt:

1-23-2007
Install Log Entry Begin (Installation):
DirectX version : 09
DirectX version is okay
OS = Win 2K/XP
Component USB from 0 to 1
Component APP from 0 to 1
Component DOCS from 0 to 1
Component MSFS2002 from 0 to 0
Component PROFILES from 0 to 1
Install USB Drivers for 2K/XP
ReInstallUSBDevices loaded setuphlp.DLL :
Error = 0
RegisterDriverINF UpdateDriver4PnP Failed! :
USB\VID_131D&PID_0155 AND D:\Games\TrackIR\Drivers\NPUSB3.inf
Error = 183
SetupCopyOEMInfA Called
ReInstallUSBDevices loaded setuphlp.DLL :
Error = 0
RegisterDriverINF UpdateDriver4PnP Failed! :
USB\VID_131D&PID_0156 AND D:\Games\TrackIR\Drivers\NPUSB3.inf
Error = 183
SetupCopyOEMInfA Called

Note the error 183 and the apparently abrupt end of the txt file. Is this normal?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Using TrackIR 3Pro with VE.

TIA,

WB.

That looks fine; the error is due to the install trying to add info to the registry that is all ready there.

How did you isolate the issue to the TrackIR?

Could you send me a screen shot of the Task Manager, Processes Tab, with the TrackIR software visible on the list?

Thanks for the reply Vincent. I isolated the problem by starting FB and playing the Blackdeath track. Usually, it would start with an FPS of 60ish when all was well but sometimes the fps would be stuck around the 17 mark. I usually run with Teamspeak/Hyperlobby when online or Voice Activated Comands when offline as well as Saitek controller software.

Either way, I tried various combinations and the only common factor was TrackIR, ie no problems in any combo except when TrackIR was running. It was very frustrating because the problem was intermittent but it ONLY happened with TrackIR running.

Interestingly, even when things were running well the BD track would start with an fps of 60ish without TIR but would drop to around 52 with TIR running - I could live with this but TIR did seem to have an fps hit of about 10%.

Very interestingly, after re-installing the software this afternoon (and seeing the post above about damaged profiles) I compared the profiles with my saved backup copies and I noticed that my usual profile had grown to 16k:

I've also noticed that when the problem is occuring the F8 and F9 keys (precision and pause) do not work and also the blue light on the trackir unit does not illuminate (but only sometimes! - see why its frustrating?)

Anyway, I've tested a few time with the latest drivers and all seems well so far with the exception that the 10% loss is still happening.

I'll run things again soon and post up screen shots as requested asap.

Which version of the TrackIR software did you install?

The drivers are latest for the NP site: TrackIR_4.1.030.Final.exe

Here's a screenshot of TM as requested:

I'm using TIR3Pro with VE on an AMD X24600 with 2GB RAM and a 7800GTX gfx card.

Hope that helps,

Are you plugging directly into system, or using a hub?

Are you running the latest video card drivers, and chipset drivers?

I'm currently plugged into a hub as of 2 days ago but it hasn't made any difference.

All my drivers are up to date. I've been a flight simmer for 10+ years so I know the importance of keeping things up to date.

I'm also off to bed as its getting late here (UK).

Many thanks for your time today Vincent, I'll catch up tomorrow if there's anything else you'd like me to try.

Cheers,

WB.
