Wavey cursor

I have both a Smartnav (for my RSI problem) and a TrackIR that I occasionally use for gaming.
I have been persisting for a few times now trying to get used to the Smartnav to replace my mouse in order to let my hand rest and heal from damage caused by excessive computer use (Im a CAD designer). The potential for this to be a great solution is certainly there, but I just cant quite get used to the wavey cursor and find myself just grabbing the mouse in frustration.
I have tried some of the tips posted here, adjusting all the settings both in the Smartnav software and the mouse sensitivity in windows. I have found a reasonable setting that i can use, but still cant achieve a precise and non wavey cursor. On top of this I am continually recentering the cursor as it veers off track quite easily.
TrackIR in games seems to be a lot smoother than the Smartnav, perhaps this is due to the 3 points of reference for the IR camera as opposed to one, but the Smartnav doesnt seem to be able to use that.
Please help me get this working properly.
