If I unplug the SmartNav, the computer freezes. This has been a problem for a LONG time now. Has any progress been made on this?
When a USB device is unplugged, the device driver is supposed to receive a PnP request with a minor code of IRP_MN_SURPRISE_REMOVAL followed later by IRP_MN_REMOVE_DEVICE (on Windows 98, only the IRP_MN_REMOVE_DEVICE is sent). Does your driver handle IRP_MN_SURPRISE_REMOVAL? Does it handle an unexpected IRP_MN_REMOVE_DEVICE?

Freeze when unplugging SmartNav
Re: Freeze when unplugging SmartNav
Will have to check with the developers on this one.

Re: Freeze when unplugging SmartNav
Not yet...however we have discovered that we can make the system lock up on a regular basis if the Smart-NAV software is running at the time you plug or unplug the device.
If we shut the Smart-NAV software down so it's not running, before we plug or unplug the device, we don't experience any problems or other adverse effects to the system.
Would you please test this on your system to see if you get the same results?

Re: Freeze when unplugging SmartNav
That is correct. The system will not freeze if the software is not running.
Re: Freeze when unplugging SmartNav
Eric,
The next version of the SmartNAV software will allow hot plugging, which should solve the system-hang on shutdown issue as well.
