Bryan, UofA:

Finger tracking in Arena 2.0 is not going to be the full individual bone finger tracking that you're envisioning, rather there will likely be kinematics involved at some part for partial marker sets.

If you want to do full hand tracking without the rest of the body, you could marker the hands as you see fit and label the individual markers.

It would be significantly more labor intensive, but it's possible. I've seen a customer do something similar with hand tracking for pianists already without the individual marker labeling in place (though he did have a fairly sophisticated custom analysis engine at the other end of the data for labeling and associating his data)

Resurrecting this old thread. How is finger tracking working now? If we were to purchase a new system, what cameras currently work with and are required to do hand/finger capture? And how good IS the capture of fingers? Does it show the proper flexing of the fingers? All fingers? Are there any videos that show this working?

We have one of the original Optitrack systems and for what we've needed it's worked flawlessly.

On the CGTalk forums we've always promoted the system.

But right now apparently there is very little information regarding the important issue of finger capture.

it just seems that if this worked very well, it would be one of the things y'all here would be shouting from the highest mountain.

Hello mikeklien,

Thanks for reviving this topic. We have actually come a long way in finger tracking. With the use of our Prime cameras and active markers we are now able to capture individual fingers.

Here is a page that shows the current feature.

Our upcoming Motive 3.0 is going to have Manus VR Glove integration, for even better finger tracking.

Best,
Steven
