calibration questions...

Post by 7ced7 »

hello,
I have some questions related to the OptiTrack system ...
sorry but I do not speak English ... y-a Does anyone speak French?
thank you

Hello,
I ran your French paragrah through the Google Translate application and I believe I understand your questions. I will type out what I want to say and then run it through Google Translate and re-post it.

From what you describe, you have a 24 camera v100r2 system, with a combination of 3.4 and 5.5mm lenses, that is mounted to the wall and your calibration goes out after a few takes. For some of the cameras, you get a higher number of frames captured during the calibration, and other cameras a lower number of frames.

Can you confirm, are you using Arena, or which software and which version of that software?
My suggestion is to first check to make sure you have appropriate wand size selected in the software for the calibration. It is also essential to double check the aiming and focusing of the cameras. If a camera is out of focus too much, then the markers seen by that camera may not contribute in the calibration process or in your capture because of software settings. You should also check the aiming of the cameras. Multiple cameras need to be able to see the calibration wand as you wave it throughout the volume. If a camera is aimed in such a way that only part of the field of view overlaps with another camera, then that camera will not be able to capture as many frames during the wand wave. I would double check aiming as well.

These are the typical settings that can very easily be adjusted to improve the capture volume and calibration settings.

Another thing to keep in mind is your motion capture room. If your cameras are mounted on walls, do the walls shake at all? Are the walls made of concrete, is there an air conditioner attached, or does opening and closing a door make the walls shake? There are many variables that could cause a camera system to go out of calibration.

Please let me know if any of this helps and we will help you more. If you can, please send me photos of your room. That might help to determine other issues. Email to brent@naturalpoint.com

In French:
Bonjour,

Cela pourrait aider dterminer d'autres questions. Envoyer brent@naturalpoint.com

no it is not exactly right ... calibration does not Extinguish but narrowed the area captured by the hour ... on Monday (from the office) I will send you a calibration file ... for pictures you can see here: http://lelac.be/lelac/residences.html or video here: http://lelac.be/lelac/Motion_Capture.html.
We use well-Arena and wand sold by you ...
thank you very much for your help!

Voila, I sent an email with a calibration file ...
Do you think it is possible to increase the catchment area?
If yes, how much?
Thanks

Merci

Please have a look at the bottom of this page:
http://www.naturalpoint.com/optitrack/p ... 12-lenses/

Here you will find a Lens Calculator. You can select your camera type, lens on the camera, and enter a distance from the camera to the center of the volume. In your example, let's say the distance from the cameras on the wall to the center of the volume is 10 Feet, then you would have a viewing width of 10.97 feet and a viewing height of 8.23 feet. If your cameras are sideways, then you can just reverse that. With this in mind, you can also see what the dimensions should be at your base line, or where you hope the capture volume will start around the perimeter of the space. Looking at your video, it looks like you are hoping for your capture volume to start about 5 feet from the wall. If you put 5 as the distance, you will see that the viewing width is 5.49 feet and viewing height is 4.12 feet.

I believe that the issue you are having is that you are going outside of the actual capture area that your cameras can capture. At least 3 cameras must see a marker to initially start tracking that marker and then only 2 cameras after that point. When you get closer to the edges of the capture volume, closer to the walls, the number of cameras seeing those markers facing the wall you are closest too are less and less because of the fields of view of the cameras.

http://www.naturalpoint.com/optitrack/p ... 12-lenses/

By not placing as 3.5mm, do we not have a problem with low resolution V100R2? Unfortunately we have no real budget to reinvest in equipment ...

I have not found other solutions to recalibrate the whole 3 hours (maximum) ...
Our location is right next to a train station and I'm afraid it is not possible to do otherwise ...
On the capture area during the last catch I got an area of 4.8 m X 5.6 m ... I could not get better I think ...

7ced7,
Vibration from passing trains could certainly cause your system to go out of calibration. Multiple trains passing over the course of a few hours could cause the calibration to get worse each time. I believe your cameras are attached to the walls with mounts, correct? Are there also doors or an air conditioning system connected to those walls? Often times if the walls are thin enough and a door is opening and closing that can cause a calibration to go out as well.
