Minimum camera distances

Post by rjds319 »

I'm looking at options for a motion capture system where I work, and I have some concerns over how much of my allocated capture volume I would lose. What is the minimum distance the Prime 41 cameras, for example, can see markers from?

Hello rjds319,
The minimum distance you will be able to get marker data will depend on the distance between 2 overlapping cameras, the height of those cameras, and how they are angled.

If the cameras are roughly 5 feet apart, 8' high, and aimed straight across the capture space, then you would have about 6.5' from the cameras to where you would actually start having overlap to reconstruct the markers.

We often refer to this space around the perimeter of a capture volume as the "gutter". If you would like to speak directly, please call me at 541-257-2336 and we can discuss the dimensions of your room, that you hope to achieve, and what a camera setup would look like.

Thank you,
