USB extension cable

Post by blooop »

What is the maximum length of extension cable that you can use between the cameras and the hub? I've seen in the documentation that you can add up to two 5m extensions between the hub and the computer but don't see anything for the camera cables.

I have tested it successfully with a 1.8m cable I had to hand, but I would like to get some 5m USB extension cables and wanted to know if it would work before I got them.

Thanks

The max overall supported distance is going to be 20m from a camera to the computer. In most cases, this is two 5m repeater cables and 1 USB cable from the hub to the computer. Then 5m from the hub to the camera.

You might try looking into these if you need longer range than that:

I haven't tried them with an OptiTrack system, but they have worked great for me on other systems requiring remote high speed usb.

It depends on what your application is. You can use active USB cables and cascade 5 of them ( 5 meters) each or you can use a long range USB Extender over Cat5e/6 cable that enables you to extend 1.1 and 2.0 devices up to 330ft. I would check KVMSwitchTech as they offer a wide range of USB Extender products at competitive prices. I have used their USB Extenders for a few projects with great success.

Awesome but they're pretty expensive at nearly a thousand bucks each.
