How to construct rigid bodyies from markers?

I'd like to know how to construct rigid bodies (joints) from markers. In Motive, a skeleton is created from the user selected markers. I want to implement this process in my code (c++) because I have some C3D files from which I want to create skeletons.
A more general question, is there a tool to convert C3D to BVH? Thanks!
