Active LED Wiring

Looking at the datasheet for the OptiTrack active LEDs, it says there's a typical forward voltage of 1.45V. If I'm using a 1.5V AAA battery to power them, can I forego using a resistor? Based on what I could find, it seems like the resistor is only for when your power source is higher voltage than the LEDs forward voltage. Is this correct?
