3 characters in OptiTrack

Hey folks,

this is my first post. I'm working on a realtime mocap project. we have a 18 camera setup and Arena. and up until now we have only tracked 2 persons simultaneously, but we want to try track three persons.

is this posible? I know that officially the system only handles 2, but has anyone tried this, and if so with success... is there anything you can tell me on how to do it?

Hi Fredrik

It is possible, the trick lies with where you position the back waist marker. (towards the center for the 3rd actor) I have a customer that has done this repeatedly with success.

This was done with a 12 camera s250e system, but I don't see any reason why you would not be able to do it with a USB system..especially with 18 cameras.

Please try it and post your results if you can

Bryan

Does anyone know if this is actually possible with 24 cameras?

I think that even 24 V100:R2 cameras are going to have a tough time with three actors. You might be able to get the system to track them, but probably not doing much more than subtle motions. The S250e cameras offer a much more realistic pathway, as the main limiting factors (resolution, FOV, and range) are increased significantly in that model.

hi,

today we tried with 4 characters. it works, but gets unstable because the probability for one actor blocking anothers track points rises for every extra character we put in the capture area.

but for sure. looks like different positions of the back waist marker is the key to success :)

Hi Fredrik!

So.. you were able to do 3 with no issues then? what type of movements were you able to do?

If you could post a screenshot of the capture or even a sample animation.. it would be fantastic..

Good job!
