I was curious since this technology is cool if anyone has thought of or made use of trackir for purposes other than gaming.
Anyone out there is using track ir to control a robot or a video camera or UAV or something like that. Even for medical use would be interesting. Maybe for measuring how much rotation of the neck a person has at a chiropractors office would be interesting. Any comments welcome.
Other uses for TRACK IR other than gaming Anyone?
Re: Other uses for TRACK IR other than gaming Anyone?
What about tracking more than 3 points. Could the trackir track 6 points with the same camera depending on CPU power. Isn't this just like the movies using animation capture cameras?
Can we just set Track Ir to track 10 - 20 points by getting a bunch shiny surface material like the trackclip has and place them on points on your hand and have trackir give us depth measurements to each of the surface points? or is this too complex? do you have to set 3 points to track one space?
What type of software does the movie industry use to do this?
Is there free software for this?
How does Trackir Output the data of the position of the (Element=trackclip)?
Can other programs read this data like animation programs?
Cant we at least partially mimic this with Track ir?

Ok just found This On Main Page this... cool should have looked on the mainpage sooner. Anyone else have any cool experiences with any of these programs yet?

Check out our other product line, OptiTrack. It does all of this and more.
www.optitrack.com
If you'd like to experiment with computer vision applications, you can use our free Camera SDK with TrackIR hardware. It's support is only unofficial though, so you'll be on your own if you run into trouble.
http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... .Final.exe
To answer your questions more directly--TrackIR only provides vector-based (three markers arranged in a triangle) 6 DOF tracking. Though, using the aforementioned SDK, you could potentially use the hardware for different blob tracking applications. You'd have to build the solver yourself, though.
