Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
I noticed in some BF2 demo videos today that it is possible to look around inside vehicle cockpits, and from what I saw on the video its full movement not just change view which 42 and bfv supported. Does anyone know if TrackIR will support this?
If it does NaturalPoint could make some serious money with the amount of gamers for this title.

Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Look for the posts in Games General. There are some very good discussions going on there about this title and others like Half-life 2 and such. enjoy the tons of reading.
Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Silmar, "change view" from BF:1942&vietnam was when you had to hold down the shift key to move your view, right?
This boomtown video proves that you can still control you vehicle while looking around?
can you post a link to the video?
thanks!

Are you referring to the 12 minutes shakey cam video located here ?

Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Yes thats the video. If you look at one of the vehicles you can see he is looking around inside it.
Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
In BF42, you could do mouselook in planes, but it was a toggle... and, while mouse looking, you couldnt control the plane. The least they could do is add hatswitch support for BF2... and, if they really feel nice, TrackIR support as well.
Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Here you go Fellas...
Helo-02.avi
To get the TrackIR to work in Battlefield 2, I installed the Version 3.12 software to control the TrackIR unit.
This version includes mouse emulation which you can toggle on/off.
-Uninstall your current version TrackIR software,
-Install V 3.12 software (see below)
-Setup a hotkey for enable/disable trackIR that
does not conflict with any of your BF2 settings.
Ex: F9
-Set a button for Mouselook in Battlefield;
preferrably on your joystick or throttle.
-Drool
NP guys can you make available Version 3.12 ?
..or any older version that includes mouse emulation.
I have a copy I can post if needed.

Older versions of the TrackIR software are available from the support section of the TrackIR website :

here are links to your BF2 clips, Rugen, for all to enjoy.
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... oat-01.avi (400x300 - 12 seconds - 7.17 MB)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... o-03-I.avi (400x300 - 8 seconds - 6.02 MB)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... o-04-I.avi (400x300 - 10 seconds - 6.27 MB)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... o-05-I.avi (512x384 - 11 seconds - 6.93 MB)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... IR_JSF.avi (512x384 - 12 seconds - 5.98 MB)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/rug ... o-02-I.avi (160x120 - 11 seconds - 3.49 MB)
by the way, i noticed your audio bit rate on all these was about 1.4 MB, while your video data rate was around 300k - 600k. I'm fairly new to video encoding, but i've been asked to encode audio at about 96k or less, and to keep the video resolution 640x480 or 320x240, with a data rate of 500k to 1mb.
Downloading microsoft's free window's media encoder has really helped me greatly compress vids (and thus make much longer clips!).
windows media encoder 9 series
hope this helps

Re: Battlefield 2 - TrackIR Support
Sweet! I rigged something similar for the demo using version 3 trackir software, but Mouselook freezes the controls. I'm hoping these vids indicate that is not the case in the retail version, and one can fly and look at the same time. Is this correct?

Oh, I see that the HUD turns off when you look around meaning this ultra-annoying 'feature' wasn't fixed. Gawd, it could be so cool...
