A few trackir 4 questions

Hello, i just ordered a trackir 4 and had a few questions (it has not arrived yet). I have the original trackir and was wondering if there is a substantial improvement between the two and do i need the track clip accessory to get the most out of it or can i just use what i have been using for the original trackir? I get the impression that for the 6dof capability i may need the track clip..... is that so? Thanks!
