Track ir 4 stop working (no data)

Post by Ala13_Kokakolo »

I been using track ir for 6 months and suddenly one day it has stop working. I have tryied everything, i updated, reinstaled and fix drivers with no results. The track ir green light is on for a few minutes but no red lights on it and nothing is on the tracking box (is says no data at the bottom) The head thingy is on my cap and it seems the track ir does not recognise the light back.

It is directly plugged and my system is windows xp service pack 2

cheers

I tryed it in another fresh computer and it has the same problem (is the track ir then) and by the way, the mounting is broken as well in mine, the two small rubber discs just inside the plastic frame are loose. But i think both are not related...

Please send the following information to support........

What is the nature of the issue?

Steps already taken?

What is the Serial # of the device?
It should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.

Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder

Have you tried the device on another system?

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Could you attach a screen shot of your Device Manager (showing USB), and tracking screen (TrackIR software -> View -> Tracking)?

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.

Windows Help: Print Screen

To do this, follow this procedure:

1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.

Hi vincent. The warranty has expired, so i do not keep the purchase receipt. I just was seeking for advice just in case was a software issue, so i guess from your reply this is not the case so i will have to start saving money to buy a new one...

Yea, looking at the screen shot, the unit appears to be detecting as a TrackIR Basic. From this, it usually indicates that the firmware chip has had a pwoer failure of some kind, and "fried" itself. It basically doesn't know what it is..........

is it possible to fried it by unpluging it while connected? I know usb conections have this risk...

There was also a small thunderstorm that day... but anything else was affected

It is possible. What happens is the power can surge across the USB port, and cause a brown out condition, whick can play havoc with a firmware chip.......
