Hi Vincent,

TIR4 worked well for 1 month, no response from device since yesterday.
- no device detected
- blue LED flashing
- Serial # : xxxxx
- SW: xxxx.36
- no change on system
- in device manager exist a "NaturalPoint Device",
-- a "NaturalPoint TrackIR 4"
- driver reinstall done successfully
- device is connected directly, no hub.
- no device on different machines

Seems to me like the hardware problem with flashing blue LED...
Any ideas? Thanks!

hi tom,

Exactly the same problem i experienced, to me it just happened suddenly, went to play after a long time not using it, updated software to .36 software, loaded it up, and device not detected, but blue led flashing, if i change software i get other messages, like it detectts it but gets stuck in configuring, etc... i got an email saying its hardware failure, but i see there is a few people with the same type of error, so just wonder how come all this people at same time have this hardware failure....

I would suggest contacting the Place of purchase, for a replacement device.

Hi Vincent,

got a new one from mediadeal with serial number 84108 in Germany:
The device worked very well for 2 sessions. After that this device is also dead, but without any lights!

- no device detected
- no LED on,or flashing
- Serial # : 84108
- SW: xxxx.36
- no change on system

In the past I never had such a problem with hardware. I'm really surprised! Now I have to return the device a second time with insurance at my cost and time! What is your suggestion in this case? There is a major hardware bug, isn't it?

I would look at the USB portion of the system causing an issue. You could be getting a power surge/short across the USB port, which then causes a hardware failure of the TrackIR unit.

I would recommend using an external USB hub (with it's own power supply) for connecting the next unit to the PC.

Hi Vincent,

thanks for the fast reply. I use nearly 10 devices on the different ports - without any problems. I'm interested in the power surge/short:

What exactly do you mean? When HOTAS Cougar, 3 USB drives (2.5", 3.5", Card Reader, Mobile, mp3-player, mouse,...) survive these "surges", why not the TIR4? Doesn't met the system (USB) spec with the design? (My system is 1 year old...)

Btw, the first one died on a externally powered USB hub... Direct connection was done to test and avoid an additional loop in the discussion. I'm really disappointed!

Most of those devices work on the lower power/amperage level. The TrackIR device is on the upper current level, for USB devices, and can be effected more easily be surges/brown outs.

This happend to me when I reinstalled Vista 64. Blue light flashed and showed unknown device in manager. In device manager I right clicked unknown device and selected update drivers then browse my computer and browsed to windows folder and clicked next and then my trackir ir showed up and works.

I have used my trackIR 3 times about a year ago and I have been far to busy to mess about with gaming but just tried it. When I try installing the driver I get an internal failure regardless if my trackir is plugged in. WHen plugged in I see a flashing blue LED... I have vista 64 with sp1 installed, 4gb ram, 2tb of hard drive space etc. It's the same system that I used back when I first got it but now it won't install the driver.

any ideas?
