Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
This is generally an issue with the install shield -
You can try reinstalling the install shield engine -
http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/s ... &sliceId=1
version 6 -
If the file version number starts with 6:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.
* Note before reinstalling, or updating, make sure to performa system backup

Wotan: I've tried to find anything that would explain that out of bounds message but nothing lines up with what you are doing.
I assume you have UAC off in Vista? Have you tried installing any other application software to see if you get the same problem? If it's the installer script then you'll get the same message but at least this way you'll start to pinpoint what it "isn't"......

Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
Hi 'goingballistic',
Everything else installs fine, no issues, UAC is switched on but I am the machine administrator (though the account has been renamed), and it never comes up, have attempted to install without UAC on, i get the same problem. Installed from the CD, and get the same problem. I have also deleted the install shield and reinstalled as advised above, all to no avail.
Worth mentioning it's actually a Track IR Pro; not sure if that would make a difference?
Device manager does find the device i just can't get the damn software on!
PS was working fine on Windows XP 32.

Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
Wotan: Weird man. I have a Vista 64 system and didn't have a problem. I know Vincent said something about the installer, hence my suggestion. If other stuff installs, it's not the installer causing the problem.
I've done everything with mine ( I am the admin) with UAC off, it has created issues in the past with it on, since I'm the only user, I turned it off.
I assume you have deleted the folder if there was one?
Have you tried to install the software with the track pro disconnected from the machine? What happens if you reboot and plug the device in, does Vista detect it and ask for a driver disk? I'm wondering if you have some type of conflict on the bus somewhere? Just out of curiosity do you ever get to the point that it asks what folder to install into? If so where are you "trying" to put it?
What does device manager show? Is there anything in the event viewer that might indicate what the problem is? I'll keep checking this, let me know.

Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
Tried right clicking on the TrackIR installed, and running as admin?
Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
Hello All,
Yes even though I'm the machine admin i have tried right clicking and it made no difference at all.
I have switched UAC off and i get the same issue.
I have attempted to install (both from the disk and from the downloaded drivers) without the device plugged in and i get the same issue. When the device is plugged in, Vista detects it (as Unknown Device) and attempts to automatically install the drivers (it fails but points to the NaturalPoint site).
If I 'OK' through all the error messages then i can get to the point where it asks me where to install (curiously it comes up without a drive simply saying \Naturalpoint\TrackIR i.e. "C:\Program Files" is missing. I enter that from the 'Browse' button and then i get the final error (given in previous post) at which point it bombs out and won't let me try to install again until reboot.
Everything else has installed fine on this computer (other than some issues with Black Shark)

Re: Vista 64 SP1 Installation Problems
I'm confused, sorry maybe it's me.
When you go to install and browse to the directory for the driver, I assume it finds the driver "package", then you select that and it starts the install? It then asks where you want to install it? Point it to some other path NOT programs but make a folder somewhere and make sure the permissions are set right on the folder, THEN try to install it.........I'm wondering if you permission tree is screwed up?
So when Vista detects the device:
- Direct it the folder with the drivers
- Browse to the new folder you created and set permissions on
- Install to that new folder
Let us know what happens.
