Just to resurect this old-ish thread. I now have a TIR5 and Trackclip Pro. I also hate the wire, so have bought this from eBay:

Holds 2 x AAA batteries, built in switch and I'll simply attach it to the top of my wireless headset, a creative HS-1200.
I will change the resistor in the clip (underneath the rubber in the clip) to an appropriate value to take into account the lower voltage (2.4v as opposed to 5v). The AAA's are rechargeable thats why they're 1.2v each not 1.5v.
I'll take some pics and post on here when it's done

Be careful on that resistor swap, I've burnt out my share of LEDs before.

great job. having the battery pack on the opposite side must balance it out quite nicely.
