OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
Hello:
We have received a lot of requests for actual captured data from our motion capture hardware / software, so below are some links to these files.
They were captured with our VGA camera (due out soon) and our full body mocap software (by SIGGRAPH). You can watch the software / BVH / Poser Import wave files. All data is raw, no cleanup.
Your feedback is welcome!
PS. My favorite part is the beginning of the (4) video, where the skeleton snaps to the point cloud when the actor enters the capture volume.

Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
The data and videos look great, especially for being raw data. I had no problems importing it into 3dsmax via character studio. I also tried MotionBuilder, but it had issues with the files because the scale is so small--I know Poser uses a small scale and these files were meant for Poser. Do you also plan to support other formats like trc, c3d, or fbx?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
One of the things I was wondering is how does the system handle things like flips and falls and the like? I'd like to really see how this data works.
Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
Hello:
We do plan to support C3D, and also have a direct plugin to MotionBuilder.
I will check on the small scale problem and see if we can't get something that works for both inputs.
I think that flips would be fine, have to find someone to do that for us though! I am not sure that our insurance would cover falls though. We will work on some more complex data in the near future.

Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
Hi,
I'm impressed. Was there a problem with the head tracking?
Or was the performer just watching himself/herself on the screen?
Are the videos a real time playback of raw data or corrected?
What types of tools will be available for post processing of capture data?
Thanks
Niall

Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files
Hello:
I think that he was just watching himself on the monitor, as it was a single person setup, but I will check that out.
This is raw data, no correction applied and totally unedited from the capture.
We will have full capture editing available in the software, so you can do your cleanup in one place.
Glad the response is good, keeps the team motivated!

Re: OptiTrack sample videos and BVH files--Mac?
These samples look great--very encouraging! I understand that there are no plans for a Mac version of the Optitrack system, but will it be able to output Mac-compatible BVH files? I'm not a code expert, but I have been able to convert some PC BVH files to Mac using Word just by getting rid of some extra paragraph returns, but other files (like the samples here) I can't seem to get to work. (One main difference I see between these files and a BVH file that I can use is that there are a lot more places after the decimal points in these files.) In any case, it seems like Mac and PC BVH files aren't terribly different, so will there be some consideration for Mac users?
