It would be nice to be able to do custom keyboard command mapping.

It would be even nicer to allow keyboard / DirectInput mapping with multiple inputs being able to set off a single command (both my keyboard and my joystick can set off the same action)

It would be even nicer to get the analog inputs from a DirectInput device into the software. That way, I can give a wireless gamepad to a client and they can run the camera themselves, or control the character's environment themselves.

As the software matures in the future, the DirectInput devices can expand to allow Arena to be used for more visualization applications such as pre-vis dur-vis and post-vis for entertainment production. They will allow for hybrid capture where some data streams come from other sources.
