Star Trek: Aurora part 4--full character animations

This was my first extensive use of the Optritrack/Arena system. Still working on my cleanup technique, but overall I was very pleased with the quality and ease of use of the system. I had been animating this series of animations by hand (you can see those at http://www.auroratrek.com/episodes.html ), and I think that, overall, Arena allowed me to work faster, but more importantly I think the use of mocap lends a much greater range of expression and subtlety of movement that only a very skilled animator (that is, somebody who isn't me!) can achieve.

Nice work. You've got a great ear for dialogue too. What's the animation package you're using?

Thanks! Those are Daz characters rendered in Cinema 4D, with mocap via Arena to Daz Studio to Poser to Cinema 4D. My workflow is outlined on my site at:

I'm downloading all your video's now, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your workflow, I use all the software/hardware that you have and I will be getting the optitrack system soon, however I will get the facial as well, I can't wait to see what you have done.

Hey I had a question, episode 4 seems to have a LOT more fluid motion with the bodies and animation, was your workflow different on that last episode then the other 3 with the optitrack?

I really only started using the Optitrack on Part 4--the first 3 parts did not use mocap except for just a very few places.

Hi Tim, I have the same workflow than you, except for DazStudio.

Please, could you tell me why you use DazStudio for something specific for the mocap conversion or is it just for the characters?

Thanks

Diego
