proper lighting of mocap area?

Post by farstar »

I am setting up my mocap area and was wondering about lighting. Is there anything I need to know or heads up about adding light to the mocap area? Like for instance do I need to make sure my subfect in mocap area is fully light all the way around for better results?
should the mocap area be brightly lit or should it be dim lighting?
Is fluorescent lights ok to use or will it effect the performance of camera?
What is the best type of light to use?
Thank you for any insight into this topic

You can pretty much light however you want, the only type of lighting that I've found that causes any real issues is sunlight.. aside from that, it is up to you really..

Additionally:

Fluorescent lighting is best since it doesn't emit IR light, that means the light sources and their reflections won't be detected by the cameras.

Incandescent lighting puts out enough IR that it can be picked up by the cameras but is usually not an issue since in-camera masking can be used to filter it out.

For marker tracking the cameras provide their own illumination using the built-in IR strobes. If you're using a Filter Switcher enabled camera in non-IR mode then you'll want ambient lighting sufficient to illuminate the actor.
