Infrared possible incompatibilities

Post by eggboy »

I was thinking on simultaneous face/body capture. Would it be possible to combine facial capture with expression and a cheap/limited body capture with kinect or optical-based tracking?

Another thought was to use an HD camcorder attached to a helmet (avatar-style) while using Arena to track the body...

Anyone tried to do something like that?

Another thought is that the kinect emits an infrared pattern, this would make the combination useless, is that right? Can you give me a little advice on this, Optitrack?

At the moment, the only way to do both facial and full body movement with the OptiTrack cameras is by doing the capture separately. It's not really recommended to offload one of those to a kinect or camcorder, as there would be serious difficulty in just synchronizing the data, let alone making something usable out of it. Additionally, the lower framerates of kinect and off the shelf camcorders provide for a significant reduction in quality, to say nothing of the difficulty in interpreting the data and taking it to an animation studio, there would be a ton of development just in that.
