Tracking Tools and Interleaved cameras

(I'm moving my questions here from the general forum.( link ))
Is it possible to set up & utilize interleaved groupings of cameras with the tracking tools API? Or, do you need to use the GUI to set up the groupings, and then use it your own application via the API?
To achieve interleaved groupings of cameras, do you have to use the optihub or can you use the dlink hub and use the sync cables?
