Slow streaming into Motionbuilder

Post by _mg_ »

Hi,

Any one have any thoughts on why trajectorised data, streamed from Arena, would be turning up in Max and Motionbiulder at about 1/10th the speed in Arena?

We're running gigabit network cards, fast pc's, MB 7.5 ext2 and Arena 1.4 (latest version)

Thanks

Hello,

It sounds like it could be a network issue. Can you try:

-Running both Arena and MotionBuilder/Max on same machine when streaming. Is the speed still slow?
-Connecting the PCs directly by ehternet cable. Is the speed still slow?
-Making sure Frame Rate setting in Setup tab is set to 100%
-Also, does the character being used in MotionBuilder/Max have high poly count?

Thanks Yoshi, those are good suggestions. I'm streaming into an empty motionbuilder scene i.e. no geo just the markers ergo minimal overhead.

The frame rate setting was at 100% or 1:1.

I'll try the Motionbuilder/Arena on the same machine first then try the ethernet cable. I'll post my results regardless of succes or fail.

Thanks

Hi Yoshi,

Succes! I have it streaming on the Arena machine and via a direct connection to the MB machine. Thanks for the tip.

How do I do a direct stream of data to motionbuilder that is loaded on the same machine as Arena? do I have to do the IP addresses for this?

You can set the IP addresses as 127.0.0.1 on both Arena and MotionBuilder.

is there a demo version of Arena to test out that configuration?

I have some 2D and projectorized data recorded on the machine in the mocap room. I am having trouble streaming data from the mocap room to my machine

We don't have a demo version of Arena which streams. If you want to more easily change the workstation you use Arena, you might want to check out getting a hardware key.

If the computer in the mocap room is not on the same hub/switch as your computer, there may be problems with streaming the multicast data over the network between them.

Can you tell us more about your network topology?
