....ahem....except that it won't install....deleted previous version of TrackIR5. I've downloaded and tried installing more than several times....Process monitor shows:
Well, look who got embarrassed when the community found that the problem was not simmconnect, but the version checker. Had to do something when we all found out about the language.dll fix, eh ?
Gee Thanks
Sue
Hi Sue,
Our view on this situation has been and remains consistent. And for what it's worth, the timing of that language.dll trick was coincidental, as we were already committed to the dev work for this fix before it surfaced.
The problem wasn't Simconnect, or the language.dll, or our API, or anything else. There wasn't really even a "problem" to speak of. Both parties knew the source of the issue. Support was already in place for TrackIR during the P3D beta, but was broken due to a minor change in P3D code. After we were made aware of that break, we began discussing how best to go about making sure it didn't happen again.
Our publicly stated preference was to use our own TrackIR API, because we know it's stable and won't be susceptible to unexpected breaks in support. LM's publicly stated preference was to use Simconnect, for their own reasons.
The language.dll "fix" is pertinent to users because it was an interim solution, but it's not related to the core technical discussion we were having with LM. Contrary to speculation, our integration of P3D support did not incorporate that language.dll fix, because it required modifying third party code, which is not the kind of thing we would include in an official software release. (Though, again, it was a great find and useful trick as an interim solution.)
At the end of the day, LM made it clear that they just didn't have the resources to integrate our API. Though it opens the integration back up to interruption from P3D code changes, we agreed to do the work on our end for the benefit of our mutual users. (And LM has promised to keep us better updated if any relevant changes to their code are made, so we can account for them in advance.)
