TrackIR Crashing on Startup

Post by Sven2157 »

Hello Everyone!

I have had TrackIR for 10 days now, and the TKIR software has crashed 12+ times. This usually ONLY happens on software startup( regardless of Windows starting or Double Clicking the icon ). Once I can get the software to start properly, I have no issues.

I have read the post TrackIR 5 software crashes - workaround and have verified that my Triple Buffering is NOT on.

Upon crash, I receive the following details in the notification window:

Code: Select all

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	BEX
  Application Name:	TrackIR5.exe
  Application Version:	5.2.0.100
  Application Timestamp:	50d2227d
  Fault Module Name:	TIRViews.dll
  Fault Module Version:	3.3.39.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:	50d2218e
  Exception Offset:	00005bd2
  Exception Code:	c0000005

  Additional Information 3:	8f57
  Additional Information 4:	8f576e02d4f9fa20886d32d3ed351da3
When viewing my Application logs, via Windows Event Viewer, the problems are all the same( with the exception of the Time Stamp ):

Code: Select all

Faulting application name: TrackIR5.exe, version: 5.2.0.100, time stamp: 0x50d2227d
Faulting module name: TIRViews.dll, version: 3.3.39.0, time stamp: 0x50d2218e
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00005bd2
Faulting process id: 0x514
Faulting application start time: 0x01cdeb8a8fd1cdb6
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5\TrackIR5.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5\TIRViews.dll
Report Id: ce99c775-577d-11e2-b9f2-50465d685b9f
My computer specs are as follows:
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Edition
  • ASUS P8Z77-V LK
  • Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40 GHz LGA1155
  • 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
  • RAID 10( 0+1) Intel ROM
  • Kingwin 1000W 80+ Bronze PSU
  • nVidia GTX 560( 01G-P3-1461-KR )
I cannot find where to attach a file, so I have uploaded a .DMP( of the latest crash on Windows Start ) to my website server and provided a download link for review: Sven2157_TrackIR5.exe.2632.DMP.zip( 309KB )

Windows is completely up to date, including my Visual C++ Runtime Libraries 2005 - 2010( both x86 and x64 ) and associated Service Packs, .NET 4.0 and associated Service Packs, DirectX, Flash, Java and everything else common to PC Gaming, Software Development and Web Design.

Sometimes when I try to start the software, it starts right up. However, it can take 5 or more tries. When it finally does start, I am not really sure what has changed to cause the program to "straighten" out.

If there is more information that is needed, I would be happy to post.

Thanks, and I love this thing! ;)

*** EDIT ***
I forgot to mention, that I am using NO Beta drivers, and that my Video, Realtek HD Audio, RAID and Motherboard Drivers are all current, as well. There is also, NO Over-clocking( OC ) on any hardware, as everything is factory speeds.

Thanks Jeff. Take your time. This is more of a hassle than anything; as the software will eventually start. Let me know if I could provide any additional details.

So digging into I haven't come across anything specific to TrackIR and this type of error, but in general the recommended steps to try is to disable any anti-virus/malware software you have. After that you can try disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention) either for the program itself or disabling the service all together. I have included a link to a tutorial on how to do that, let me know if it solves the issue.

It is for Windows Vista but should be very similar in Windows 7.

DEP is set to what it should be and, sorry, but I will NOT disable my Security Suite( including my Anti-Virus ) for one program. If my Norton was causing this, it would happen every time I tried to start the software, and not intermittently.

I appreciate the post, as it lets me know you are looking into it, but those error logs are pointing to the executable and DLL for TrackIR. The ones created by Natural Point.

Like I said, it only happens on startup( either with Windows, or using the icon ). Once the program is running, it has no issues at all.

These aren't meant to be permanent solutions but troubleshooting steps to determine if there is a conflict with these two pieces of your operating system. While we haven't experienced issues directly with Norton products there are other security suites which have caused intermittent issues, so it does happen.

If trying these steps doesn't work the next step would be to run a memory diagnostic. Memtest86+ is free and fairly easy to use.

Just to let you know that he isn't the only one with this issue, I've got a TrackIR and I'm finding it very unstable.

I'm also running Norton on Windows 7 64 bit with latest nVidia drivers in SLI, but it does run sometimes so wouldn't expect the problem to be with Norton or DEP. I agree that while its okay to switch off to troubleshoot this isn't a long term solution.

If there's anything I can do to help

It may be related to starting the application without wearing the TrackClipPro, if it can't see it it crashes. Will investigate further.
