And at the same time I guess I should have kept my mouth shut because tonight it happened again but luckily at the end of the flight when I just parked at the gate.

Same thing as before, the two green lights on the device illuminated but no response when moving the head and when moving the cursor over the TrackIR icon in the System Tray Bar it vanishes indicating the application is not running anymore and when restarting the app the green lights illuminate again but head movement doesn't work. That however is normal I guess since you always need to start TrackIR before launching the simulator.

Annoying and especially since nothing is logged as far as I have been able to see checking the Windows events log.

Richard,

Has it happened again since or was it just that once?

This was after my initial report so it happened again and before my first report it happened a couple of times IIRC.

Just doing the return leg back to Stockholm from Copenhagen keeping my fingers crossed it won't happen again.

Unfortunately same thing happened again and just in time for the landing but did make it down on the ground in one piece despite this ;)

One thing I've noticed and I'm not sure if it's related to this issue is I'm getting some weird stuttering even when my FPS seems good. Reason I suspect there might be a relation between these two issues is on this last flight everything started when I noticed during the approach how the stuttering got worse and worse and the head movement was rather jerky and then on final the head movement suddenly stopped working. Was hoping maybe that would also stop the stuttering but it didn't, maybe that's because there is still some TIR locked into the sim session even after TIR crashed?

How is TIR communicating with P3Dv2, is it via SimConnect? I'm starting to suspect this might be a SimConnect issue where the SimConnect channel is flooded and this is what causes the stuttering and also the TIR to crash.

What do you think?

Searched for a SimConnect log file to check for any clues but couldn't find a log file, maybe there isn't one?

Richard,

You must be a better pilot than I am. I don't always make it to the ground in one piece when everything goes right!

TrackIR and P3D communicate through SimConnect. Do you know what version of SimConnect you are running? I have been able to re-install the SimConnect and solve a different issue by loading the file I found here.

http://www.flight1software.com/files/SimConnect.msi

I look forward to hearing what you uncover with SimConnect.

Well...it sure is much easier to land with TrackIR running that's for sure ;)

Thanks for the link but my experience is SimConnect can be quite nasty to mess around with so before trying to install some new SimConnect msi package I'll start by trying to find a way to get a SimConnect log file to be able to see if SimConnect is to blame in the first place. However after this last flight it sure feels like that could be the case.

Will report back any findings regarding my issues.

Is it possible to enable some kind of logging or debug mode in the TrackIR software that could give clues why the application all of a sudden crashes like this?

I think I've already said it but I've checked the Windows Event logs both the application and system logs but neither one of these shows any warnings or error messages when the TrackIR software crashes which I find odd?

I also may have spoke too soon... TrackIr began crashing again in P3D. The TrackIr CPU load at crash was low. Not sure if this is an issue with P3D, simconnect, TrackIr, VRS Superbug or VRS Tackpack.

Wannabe,

Have you tried re-installing simconnect or doing a repair on P3D?
