How to back up profiles and settings for Windows re-install?

Post by pete_agreatguy »

Hi all,

I will be doing a clean windows (7 x64 ultimate) install as my OS has become very unstable recently.

I need to backup TrackIR settings and profiles ready for a re-install.

I've backed up the profiles folder found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5".

For the settings, do I just backup the file "settings.xml" found in the above directory?

Thanks in advance,
Pete

Pete,

That is exactly what you would do. I would also have you check the location "%AppData%\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles" because that is where it is stored with newer versions of the TrackIR software. Also where you will need to place the files when you install 5.4.2 after the re-install.

Hi Mike,

I have backup up both locations just in case. I'll be reinstalling my system sometime this week.

The one you mentioned was located here:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles

Thank you :)

Hi Mike,

Finally got around to my reinstall.

To inform the following is what I had to do to get the TrackIR 5 with pro clip working ...

On Win 7 x64 installing the usb drivers doesn't work.

You have to install the TrackIR software and allow that to download and install the drivers in order for TrackIR to install correctly for some strange reason. I also rebooted before plugging my trackir into a usb port.

Copying across the backups seems to have worked from what I can tell. I will test it later, but my default selected profile is correct and the settings seem to be correct also from what I can see.
Thanks for your aid in advance :)
