TrackIR 5.4.2 crashing on launch

Hey guys,
Something has happened with a windows update or similar I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling/ using windows restore points and even the visual c++ redistributes 2013 reinstall to no joy(though that did get it to start to then have it lock up and the immediate lock up happen again).
Error messages look like this in the system log:
The program TrackIR5.exe version 5.4.2.27545 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
