Is there a way to have mouse emulation auto center?

Post by stepee » Wed Jul 15, 2009 5:57 pm

I posted this in another board and someone suggested I try here:

Am I missing something or does the mouse emulation not really remember the position of your head? Like the mouse itself doesn't center where I am looking, so the center location keeps being some new random spot on my screen, makes it pretty difficult to control in windows, not like I really really use that besides for fun, but it's also annoying trying to use it as a camera in say, Prototype because I constantly have to reposition myself. I hope I'm just doing something wrong or there is a better way to do it, because otherwise it'd work pretty good for Prototype, I was having fun using it when it was working properly.

As an aside, having the same issues using it with the freelook Obvlivion mod because it won't go back to center without me unnaturally guiding it with my head or using the mouse.

Also, I'd like to use trackir to simply map the lean functions in non sim fps games, is this something I should be able to easily do and if so how?

Thank you!

MApping certain functions direcrtly to the TrackIR movement is supported within the TrackIR software.

The centering of the TrackIR software is controlled by your position, and if you move, as well as the F12 key(default hotkey setting) which resets it, if it needs adjusting/recentering.

What about the centering of mouse emulation? Is there a way to have it recognize your position as it does not seem to?

You just need to use the recenter key.

I think you're missing the point here NaturalPoint guys.

The problem is that this guy is trying to use mouse emulation in games that can use mouse movement for head movement (usually when a toggle key is pressed). The problem is that mouse emulation only tracks the mouse movement to the edge of your display but you can keep moving you REAL head. The result is that when you start looking back to the center again the 'cursor' moves past the center long before you real head returns to a center position.

You can reproduce this yourself to see what i mean. Load the mouse emu, then look far left. Not the cursor stops at the edge of the display. Now move your head back to center but see the cursor move further.

When this is translated to games that use mouse movement for head-looking the result is as described by the guy in the first post.

I realise that there's probably not much you can do about it but it would be really nice if there was some way t address this as many games that have no native support for TIR still have mouse-for-head movement functionality.

Mouse emulation tracks in relative mode, as opposed to the absolute tracking of TrackIR Enhanced view control. A new mouse emulation program is on our roadmap, which will hopefully allow you to toggle between the modes. However, until we can release something new (which is likely quite a ways off), the behavior that you are describing is normal and standard.

You can use a third party utility called TrackMapper to accomplish this, though compatibility with 5.0 software has not yet been tested. As it's a third party tool, we can't guarantee its performance.
