TrackIr5 is not recognized by Flaming cliffs 2

Post by nicolaas »

Hello:
I just installed FC2 and updated the sim to 1.2.1 version.
Tir5 runs normal, i.e the left green led goes on and all works fine when opening the camera view.
But TIR5 is not recognized in FC2. After startup FC2, the right green light will not lightup and tir is not working.
I have changed the fc.exe (launcher.exe) to run with admin rights but that did not work.
I run a win7-64 system. Lomac flaming cliffs is running well with Tir5.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Problem solved
Just update titles TIR5, FC2 was added and that did the trick.

Yammo

Did you update titles to ensure that Flaming Cliffs 2 is available?

What version of Windows and what version of TrackIR are you using?

Oh, thanks for the swift reply! :)

But, like I said...
I bumped the thread due to 2 friends having the same problems.
For me and everyone else I know, TIR seemed to "just work".

User 1:
- OS: Windows 7, 64BIT, (unknown language version)
- Country: Portugal
- TIR: Version 5 with latest software and game-updates
Status:
- TIR works perfectly in all applications except LOMAC-FC2.

User 2:
- OS: Windows Vista, (unknown BIT version), Swedish Language
- Country: Sweden
Status:
- TIR: Version 5 (Latest software and game-updates)
- Has tried re-installing the TIR software.

So, to iterate:
- The TIR works fine within the trackIR itself.
- The TIR works fine in FSX and all other games.
- It is ONLY in LOMAC-FC2 that the things "hit the fan"*.

* Hit the fan
Almost all buttons become unresponsive except escape and
mouse 1. (As if the "win-hook" was trapping all input except
the ESC-key)

Have them try launching both applications by rightclicking on the shortcut and selecting "run as administrator"

No difference I'm afraid... :/

Also, one of the guys has UAC disabled already, meaning he always "Runs as admin"...

Also Neither has the game installed in Program files, which can sometimes be a source of trouble...

Test 1:
I tried sending one of the guys my version of the folder:
"Eagle Dynamics\LockOn - Flaming Cliffs 2\Config\Input"
Unfortunately that didn't help either... But it got me thinking - You wouldn't happen to know what other files are used by LOMAC-FC2 in relation to TrackIR? So that I could try sending them these files to replace with my working ones? :)

Test 2:
Since the ESC button was the only button that worked, I was speculating that TIR was taking over the whole keyboard, alas when testing this through using the "Pause" functionality in game, the Camera did not light up red. (Which it did before starting the game)

Test 3:
I was speculating that the TrackIR software was using Windows-Hooks to grab keys, which could possibly be detected as hostile by anti-virus programs - far fetched I know since the TIR works with all other programs but I was thinking that perhaps LOMAC was using hooks as well - So thought and done, I had my friend turn off RealTime auto-protection on Nod32...
Alas, yet again, no joy... :/

Thanks again for your attention, I am really looking forward to finding a solution to this... :)

If UAC is disabled, it does not automatically run everything as admin. Windows 7 and Vista handle administrative rights quite differently from windows XP, and this assumption is a common pitfall for many people. He will still need to right click on the icons and select "Run as administrator" to run the process elevated. Additionally, if that assumption was made during installation, it would be prudent to uninstall, and re-install by right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as administrator". Here, it is important to note that if you attempt to run the installer from the download window, it will not have administrative rights. Administrative rights are much more important to grant during installation, with or without UAC active.

To re-iterate:
The TIR works fine in all programs except LOMAC-FC2, (from FSX
through IL2 Sturmovik), where it instead locks up all controls
except the ESC-key.

If you really think privelegues are the culprit of this very
selective behavior, I will gladly have them reinstall TIR again
just to make sure... :)

It's not that I don't believe you, it's that when troubleshooting, we need to eliminate things like this first. Also, it's not just administrative rights during installation, but also while running the applications. While installation as admin would create a more global issue, if FC2 had a different native privilege level than the other games (possible) it would create selective behavior.

There are other things that we can try, but it's best to follow proven troubleshooting methods and only affect one thing at a time.

What happens if they launch both FC2 and TrackIR by specifically right clicking on them and selecting "run as administrator".

I quite understand...

But just like doctors makes the worst patients, I guess programmers makes the worst users... ;)

So, on that note I have asked the two guys to pick up the thread from here... This will hopefully give them (and you) much faster iterations.

On a curious final note that came up when I talked to them tonight, they bought their TrackIR almost simultaneously 4-5 weeks ago... Not sure if this information is of any use, but being such a coincidence, I didn't want it to slip by unnoticed. :)
