Wont shut down in task manager

I'm having the same issue of it not shutting down when using with Flight simulator 2004. Has a fix been developed.

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

My problem is not quite the same. Using trackir 5 with trackir 4 software on xp sp3. After working well for about a month, I suddenly get a "trackir has encountered a problem and needs to close" notice whenever I try to start it. Trackir is still running in task manager, but it can't be closed! closing the process tree gets rid of it, with lots of error notices. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both 4 and 5, but I get exactly the same result. I closed it the last time it worked properly in the normal way, and then have spent a good 4 hours trying to get it going again. Any help?

Event viewer is built into windows and automatically logs information about many many many things, crashes being one of them. TrackIR crashes are generally logged in the application log.

Here's a quick how-to on the event viewer through vista. It looks a bit different in 7 but is functionally the same for our purposes. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic40108.html

To access the event viewer, go to the start menu, right click on computer and select manage. Expand the event viewer option and look for the application log.

I can open trackir 5 in safe mode, but get one light on the camera, and then a warning that the DX (I think, from memory) something can't be initialised, and then the crash.

Trackir 4 has worked without a problem for at least 3 weeks prior to now.

Try uninstalling both TrackIR 4 and 5. Manually delete the naturalpoint folder in "Program Files (x86)" as well, then search your registry for any references to TrackIR. Reboot and reinstall with administrative rights (run as administrator).
