stream video to image plane in maya

Post by evengi »

I will be using VCS on an animated Cg mixed with real set feature.

I would like to stream a video from an external real camera into maya, and place it on a free image plane.
By tracking the camera with optitrack and importing those data into Maya with VCS, I hope to create a virtual stage, where I can see my real background from the camera with 3D elements from Maya imposed on top.

This way my photographer may frame previz animation with real backdrops.

This is a Maya/VCS question, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask?

Hi Roger

Shame Optitrack don't appear to be answering any questions currently
I hope they release version 3 this month, its been nearly a year since the announcement its coming soon.....

Give Unreal a try, I don't think Maya can cope with what you are asking, not in realtime out of the box.
You could maybe do it with a webcam, but i think you need some sort of Gen lock/frame lock with the camera and the software.

MotionBuilder can do this, but I know that's another stage in your pipeline and must be brought back into Maya.
Kind Regards
