Saving/restoring original takes unaltered?

Hi, new to Motive, but used Arena for a long time. In Arena you had to trajectorize, and it made another copy of the take, which was useful, since you could try smoothing on it without altering the original take. So, two questions:

1. I assume we don't have to trajectory anymore--it seems to do it automatically(?)

2. If above is true, is there a way to duplicate a take and/or some way to go back to the original take if we smooth, but later want to try different smoothing, or no smoothing?

Hello tvining,

Motive is capable of recording the realtime 3D data. If the recorded 3D is good enough for your purposes, then you do not need to re-trajectorize. Since the 3D data is processed in realtime, however, there may be small gaps in the data. This is because the realtime processing cannot always keep up with the high frame rate of the cameras. In this case, you can trajectorize to receive fully processed tracking.

Currently, the only way to create a backup of your data is to manually copy the .tak file, itself. We are looking into creating backups automatically in a future release of Motive, but I do not have information on when this feature will be implemented.

Okay, thanks! Is there any downside to trajectorizing? Will it only get better, or could it make things worse?

There's no real downside to trajectorizing. If anything, you should normally expect better results with offline processing as the software can spend more time calculating. For a lot of people, however, the 3D data recorded in realtime is good enough.
