Applying middle & index finger motion via C3D import

Post by tobi.kenobi »

Motive does a nice job of applying motion to the middle and ring finger even though the index and pinky finger are only captured, base on the 49 MarkerSet. All fingers move just fine in MoBu or Unreal via FBX(binary) export. I initially do not get all finger movements to work when I apply a C3D of the same take to an Actor in MoBu. I only have index and pinky finger motions on my MoBu Actor.

How can I apply motion to the middle and ring finger? Did I miss a feature or step in Motive? I can't find anything in the documentation that addresses this special case.

Hi tobi.kenobi,

A C3D only contains marker data. Since there are no actual markers for the fingers, you will not have anything to drive the middle fingers in MotionBuilder.

You might want to export an FBX ASCII. This allows you to export marker and Actor data that includes the middle finger solves.

I see. Alright, I'll try FBX(ASCII) then. Worst comes to worst, I'll just manually key the middle and ring fingers via MoBu Control Rig.
