Calling Calibration File

Hello,
I recently was using Motive to capture some data. As I was using it the program would hang up on me while I was switching between editing to view my recent take and back to live to record a new task I would have to restart the program. As I was doing this I noticed that the tracking of the markers was not constant, the markers would bounce around instead of tracking on the person.
I was wondering if Motive might have been calling a different calibration file then the one that I started with at the beginning of the session? Is there a way to see what calibration file is being called? Also, would the same calibration file be called if a different person logged onto the computer?

Hello shneidr518,
Currently, Motive does not do a good job of reporting the calibration that is being used. When it releases, Motive 3.0 will have a redesigned calibration interface that will clearly display this information.
For the time being, you could record a take then select it in the Data pane. The information shown in the Properties pane should include the date of the calibration that is in the take.
Each take contains a copy of the calibration, so if you suspect you loaded an older calibration you can export the calibration from one of your current takes.
I hope this helps. If you need any further assistance with this, please fee free to reach out to us directly.
Best,
Steven

shouldnt continuous calibration put you on the save side with this ?
and here motive does crash often as well, when switching between recording and review,
but also often in editing when swapping keys.
looking forward for motive3 !

Is the calibration also stored as part of the profile (so by loading the profile on Motive start, the 'good' calibration would be loaded)?

Hi petero1,
The calibration is separate from the profile. Loading a profile will not restore a previous calibration.
You can learn more about the file types and what is saved in each,
here.
Best,
Steven

Thanks for that note Steve - it was helpful (and sorry for continuing the digression). How does Motive know which calibration file to load when it starts?

My pleasure petero1,
When Motive shuts down it saves the current settings and calibration to the ProgramData folder.
When it is launched, it restores the previous settings and calibration.
C:\ProgramData\OptiTrack\MotiveProfile.motive
C:\ProgramData\OptiTrack\Motive\System Calibration.cal
Cheers,
Steven
