Please make TrackIR functional for Second Life

I think you know the online game Second Life http://secondlife.com/. One of the biggest disadvantages is that TrackIR doesnt support this great game or inverse. Is it possible to make it functional with a work around or is it planned to make TrackIR fully functional?

Kind regards
Wilfried

We talked to the developers of Second Life at GDC in March, and found them very friendly and cool.
When i asked about getting TrackIR support in there, they pointed out the game was open source, and handed me a flash drive with all the code.

sooooo.
it's really a question of finding time for our developers to stop working on our products and investigate this rather strange game/experiement. Which is a hard thing to propose to the boss.

More likely, I need to find a developer already comfortable with modding the game, and work with them to get support in/available. If you can recommend anywhere to begin this search, wilfredo, we'd certainly appreciate.

Ultimately, we focus our efforts on simulations first and all other genres of PC gaming second. While the other genres are cool and we want to pursue them for the sake of gaming in general, the majority of our users are simmers. (so, while there are thousands of game developers all over the world, and i am trying to contact each and every one, it is important that i focus first on the sim developers)

How would you use the track ir in this game? To move your character around (arrow keys) or to act like the mouse?

I'm very curious to hear others' suggestios,
but i'd see it as rotating the third person view, while translation dynamically controls animation (leaning).

Not sure what's possible though. perhaps leaning would be better used to trigger animations.

I can understand your decision very well to focus on sims.
Many thanks for your feedback

Im also a simmer and use it there, e.g. Live for Speed, a great game.

If Second Life would support TrackIR and you could look around without moving the mouse or using keys it would be a great improvement. Unfortunately Im not a programmer and can give you a hand in coding this.

Best regards
Wilfried

I'm new to IRTracker, but have been involved in Second Life for some time, mainly researching and assist with healthcare support groups.

Looks like this thread is a tad old, but I wonder if there has been much initiative with IRTracker and Second Life (I did some quick searches and didn't see anything, so I thought I would ask.)

While I am interested in products like SmartNav as assistive technology, my question here is focused on helping more fully immerse one-self in the simulation.
