Actually, Rich,
it luckily is quite easy to install and use both the old and the new software on the same machine:
Simply install both versions into different directories. I've got mine under "C:/Programs/Naturalpoint/TrackIR" (the old 3.x) and "C:/Programs/Naturalpoint/TrackIR (6DOF)" (the new 4.x with the "6 Degrees Of Freedom" vector-expansion support) respectively.
The only thing to keep in mind is that both versions' links need to be named differently. You may have to change the dafault name if it's only "TrackIR" 'cause then the 2nd version's installation will overwrite the existing link(s); if you simply make it "TrackIR 3" and "TrackIR 4" they won't be touched. After installing the 1st version, be sure to check your "programs"-folder in the "start"-menu and rename the TrackIR-folder and -links if need be.
Then you can run whichever version you prefer, but only the old one will allow you to use mouse-emulation. The new one OTOH has a neat preview of the scaling that's been set up via the active profile. Note that both versions' profiles are not compatible!
That's it - if you should have further questions, feel free to fire away ...
Cheers,
Ulf
