Why 30 or 60 FPS frame lock in FS2004

Post by steku »

In TrackIR manual you can find that sugessted frame rate lock is at least 30FPS. In description of FS2004 (or 2002) profile in TrackIR software sugessted frame reate lock is at least 60FPS.

Could you explain why you recommend this?

I'm asking because even if I have lock set at 30 or 60 FPS I never have actual frame rate bigger than 25 FPS (typically I have 17-24 FPS). Having this FPS should I expect any kind of problems with TrackIR?

I'm using TrackIR2.

steku,

60 FPS will ensure your unit will work best. However that said I have an enormous amount of add-ons now in my FS2004, somewhere around 12.6 GB, and on occassion in a very busy airport I am down to about 20 FPS, but my unit still works perfectly.

The faster your FPS in FS2004 then the smoother everything will be including TrackIR.

To clarify my question:

Is there any sense or benefit for TrackIR to set frame rate lock to 30 or 60 FPS if your sim is never able to achieve more than 25 FPS?

You can ready in many forum that setting FPS to high can lead to variuos problems like textures not refreshing etc. because FS2004 is using all processing power to generate more "dirty" FPS. With lower FPS lock some of processing power can be used for improving quality.
And when you have FPS lock set to high the sudden drop of FPS (for example when you approach an airport) from lets say 30 to 20 FPS can be more distracting than consistent flying with 24-20 FPS (without big sudden drops of FPS).

That is how it goes for FS 2002 but for FS 2004 most often you are best off with unlimited because the scenery loads the fastest that way. That is also the setting TrackIR naturally likes the best for me.
