Track IR 4 Pro and FSX Lag

I am using version 4.1 build 30 of the Track IR software and experiencing horrible lag in FSX. In FS9 it is smooth and responsive however in FSX it takes about 5 seconds or longer for a head movement to translate into the c*ckpit.

I have tried turning everything in FSX down with no improvement.

If I disable TrackIR inside the c*ckpit and instead switch to mouse look (Shift-O) the movement is fluid and lag free with framerate locked at 30fps.

A couple of ideas sprang to mind, I have .net version 1.1 sp1 installed alongside .net 2.0. I noticed in your manifest you had (simconnect.manifest):

<dependency>
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.CRT' version='8.0.50608.0' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' />
</dependentAssembly>

That assembly is only installed on machines which have Visual Studio installed, so I figured I would try installing that.. but sadly made no difference.

I love using the TrackIR and am really missing using it in FSX, any ideas which may solve this?

Whilst I was experiencing this lag I instead opted to use FSX's mouse look but one thing about it annoyed me.. the non-responsive part when looking directly ahead. I therefore went into configure controllers and selected "Mouse Look" from the menu, there I discovered that the mouse defaults to a Null Zone of around 15. I changed this to 1 (minimum setting) and voila, lovely smooth movement with the mouse. I then checked TrackIR and lo-and-behold suddenly no lag.. nice smooth movement! After 30 minutes of flying it remained good.

I hope that this has fixed the problem and may help someone else!

Bah spoke to soon, just fired up TrackIR then FSX and the lag was back continously. Checked settings in configure and tried readjusting them but to no avail.

I closed FSX and TrackIR then restarted FSX before waiting till in the game to launch TrackIR, but the lag returned immediately.

Seems this lag issue is more complicated than I first thought.

Have you tried a clean install of the simconnect folder?

OK, one step to try.

1 - Delete the following file folder

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9

2 - Insert the FSX CD, and run the repair utility. Basically we are looking to reinstall the folder.

3 - Hopefully this should remedy the issue.

Please let me know if this helps.

Also - make sure you have the Periodic News Check unselected, under the options menu.

Thanks Vincent, I tried as you suggested and deleted the folder before using the FSX disk to repair the installation.

Sadly this has made no difference :-( I ran a few tests with starting FSX and TrackIR in different order and one time TrackIR worked perfectly for an hours flight without a single interruption. This morning however I booted up and ran FSX and TrackIR and was back into the major lag, with movements sometimes being translated 30 seconds after they occur. I made absolutely no configuration changes from last night so nothing obvious is jumping out. I tried shutting down TrackIR and restarting it and it was fine for about 2 minutes before the lag returned.

Next attempt was to restart both FSX and TrackIR, same problem occured.

EDIT: Tried again, same method as previous attempt. Fired up TrackIR.. started FS9, smooth as always. Exited FS9 and started FSX leaving TrackIR running and found it smooth for 25 minute flight.. no lag at all.

Conclusions:

Through numerous attempts I have made several observations, if the lag starts at all it will continue to be a problem if I restart TrackIR. Only restarting FSX can solve the issue for the flight and also is pretty random. FSX is starting within the same environment, with same configuration yet behaves differently on occasion, sometimes working but mostly not.

I am all out of ideas :-(

One thing I found whilst playing around trying to get TrackIR to work is discovering how mouse look works in FSX. It became clear when I reduced sensitivity that FSX is doing some form of interpolation on the mouse movements to smooth transition from point to point. Now I wonder if the same effect is being applied to TrackIR inputs via simconnect. Could this be an issue? TrackIR's inputs are already processed to smooth movement so perhaps FSX interpolation code doesn't like the input's it receives?

P.S: I am a software developer and if I can assist in anyway with looking at your simconnect code please let me know. I would be more than happy to spend some free time looking at the problem.

Pretty sure it is not an issue the "smoothing" FSX does in conjub=nction with what the TrackIR does. As the TrackIR takes priority setting within the views, when the TrackIR is running.

Regrettably despite a full system re-install (windows xp, fsx etc) the problem is still occuring. In FS9 no problems but in FSX it is totally hit-or-miss whether the lag is there, in around 7 out of 10 restarts of FSX and TrackIR it will lag beyond acceptable bounds after either a short time or extended time. The other 3 times are smooth through-out. I have tried changing USB ports, changing to a powered hub with no difference what-so-ever.

Is this issue being looked at because I notice other posters are talking about exactly the same problem?

My suspicion is Simconnect does not like TrackIR?

The issue is being looked into, but it occurs very rarely.

...add me to the list.

Oddly enough, I can fly the ported version of Carenado's 206 in FSX for hours without any lag. The Real Air SF260 and the Aerosoft Beaver X , both reworked for FSX, and the default planes all produce this random lag effect on my system.

Hope we can figure this one out soon.

cheers
