F8 to the Internet

Post by DougJon »

First off, great product. IR2 with v3.03 installed and ran on my XP machine without mishap. I'm currently using IR2 exclusively for IL2 Forgotten Battles.
But a funny thing happens during online and off-line game play. If I should press F8; ZoneAlarm pops up, tells me that "NaturalPointGX MFC Application" has been blocked from accessing the internet, game locks, and it's all down hill from there.....
Any help/recommendations would be appreciated.

NH_Kettle,

Have you given "NaturalPointGX MFC Application" all server and internet rights in your ZoneAlarm control panel?

If your NaturalPoint software has not been granted these permissions then Zone Alarm will block the access. I am sure this will resolve your issue.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the response. Zone Alarm is not asking if I wish to allow the app to access the internet; ZA is simply blocking access. If I go to the screen showing it has been blocked, the option to add this app to a trusted zone is not available. I'd guess that my security settings are high enough to lock it out. Not to sound like I'm coming on strong, but I 1) have no reason to allow this app to access the internet, 2) should not have to lower my security settings to use the product.

I've changed the name of the file, but the program itself seems to need it, so that's not an option. Also, I have found that the F8 key is not a necessary part of the loop. The Natural Point software will attempt to access the internet, even during off-line play.

So now that I'm done whining, what can I do to stop the software from going to the internet?

Thanks for your interest and assistance.

Our software requires that the install be performed at an Administrative level which will then suggest the priority that it requires.
Our software interfaces with IL2 FB which through a third party program is allowed internet access for online game play.

The majority of successful attacks on computer systems via the Internet can be traced to exploitation of one of a small number of security flaws. Most of the systems compromised were attacked through a single vulnerability within Windows and I might add we are not one of them.

By allowing your NaturalPoint software internet access you are in no way compromising you computer. If you go online to play IL2FB then you have already allowed that access to be performed, we are only following what you have already shown as being safe.
A few software vulnerabilities account for the majority of successful attacks because attackers are opportunistic – taking the easiest and most convenient route. They exploit the best-known flaws with the most effective and widely available attack tools. They count on organizations not fixing the problems, and they often attack indiscriminately, by scanning the Internet for vulnerable systems.
Furthermore we do not offer a gateway for exploitation other than the games that you play online which is quite secure owing to the high input/output of data that is required during this time.

Zone Alarm has the ability to pick out any independent program access that you have not chose to access the internet in that case we would be identified as a program in violation when in fact we are linked with the online game that you have already authorized.

You said “Zone Alarm is not asking if I wish to allow the app to access the internet; ZA is simply blocking access”. I would say that you have already refused access which is allowing the pop-up to appear, please check your log.

I hope this helps to answer your question.
